Welcome back! It’s been quite some time since the last post, hasn’t it? Letting the blog go is just another proof that the family has been way too busy this summer. Here are a few things we did:
- We bought a boat thinking we could use it to avoid the swimming hole and still have fun at the lake. That turned out to be partly true. We were able to avoid the immodesty of the swimming hole altogether, but the immodesty at the boat ramp was pretty bad and basically unavoidable. In the end, we decided to give up boating and try something else. That was a hard decision to make, but it really boiled down to thinking about it from the perspective of eternity. In eternity, it is unlikely we would regret selling the boat, but it was possible(if not likely) that we would regret keeping it.
- Our choir recorded a CD! We’re really excited about this and can’t wait to share some previews and sound clips. Our parish is really growing, and with three priests and three Sunday Masses already, the church needs to expand. Hopefully sales of the CD will help with some of the costs. We just got the first delivery of CDs, and they turned out very nicely.
- Funerals. I lose count anymore. It seems we had at least a half-dozen requiems to sing for over the summer and fall.
- The sad news of Fr. Walker’s murder (one of the requiems was for the repose of his soul) was a shock. I was not a close friend–more of an acquaintance. Still, I knew him as “Kenny” before he became a priest. We were privileged to make the drive and attend his funeral.
- Work. It’s great when there’s plenty of work; usually it means there’s stability and hope for future employment. Working for a small company, however, sometimes there is just a lot of work…and employment can still look kind of dicy. Still, we’re very grateful to have work at all. Many are not so fortunate.
- Feasts! Lots of em! Don’t get me wrong. Feast days are great, and we look forward to them, but the more feasts there are, the more there is to sing. Fall is especially full for the choir. We have our parish anniversary feast day, Christ the King, and All Saints Day followed by All Souls Day all within a month’s time. And as soon as those are done, it’s time to prepare for Advent and Christmas!
- Child #4 on the way!
Now that it’s getting colder (we got some ice on Nov 12–that’s crazy for our area), hopefully we’ll be able to keep the blog going on a better pace.
