I am honored that the choir of Mater Dei Parish in Irving, TX learned and sang my Mass setting, the Missa in Epiphania Domini, for both Midnight Mass on Christmas and for the evening Epiphany Mass! I took the liberty of recording the singing live from my phone.
About the Recording
The recording from Epiphany 2021 is given below. Bear in mind that my recording setup was less than desirable. There are a number of factors I was dealing with:
- I was recording from my phone using the Voice Memos app.
- I was at the front of the church while the choir was back in the loft.
- If there are more than a few people in the church, the acoustic is pretty dead.
- Oh, and I was watching six of my children in the pew at the time, so that added some fun sounds, bumps, and thumps along the way. These sounds are inordinately loud given their proximity to the phone.
These are the first two times this Mass setting has been sung, as far as I know. As of this date, these are also the only recordings I know of, aside from the live-streamed feed on YouTube, which is usually taken down after a few days.
