Is there a way to learn what dynamic markings the composer has in mind for this piece? It would help up being it to life. Thank you.
I rarely add dynamic markings to the scores, the idea being to give directors latitude in interpreting the piece. But here’s a general concept: Overall, the piece is meditative and not too loud (mp), and a good approach would be to direct it similarly to Palestrina’s Sicut Cervus, applying arsis and thesis as arcs of notes rise or fall in pitch. “Quae paeparavit” on page 2 is an exception. One possible interpretation is to make the second “quae” (except in the bass, which has a strong entrance) louder than the first or possibly crescendo through the first into the second, then taper back on “praeparavit.” Hope this is helpful!
