Strawberry smoothies are a huge hit here at our house; when I whip one up the kids – and hubby! – all come running. A lot of this recipe is “to taste”, and it’s very forgiving, so you can use this recipe as-written or as a base to tweak and perfect your own version of a fresh fruit strawberry smoothie.
Fresh Fruit Strawberry Smoothie
A delightfully refreshing fresh fruit strawberry smoothie that tastes great as a summer snack or dessert (or, if you omit the sugar, as breakfast! :).
Ingredients
- 2 lbs fresh strawberries washed and tops removed
- 1 whole banana peeled and broken into a couple chunks
- 1/2 cup whole milk well chilled
- 1 cup ice optional, see recipe notes
- 1/3 cup vanilla yogurt optional
- 1 tsp granulated sugar to taste, optional, see notes
Instructions
- Toss all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
Notes
Vary the amount of milk to make the smoothie thicker or thinner. Omit the sugar for a healthy breakfast smoothie. Use water instead of milk and omit yogurt if needed for milk allergies.
My favorite tip for this smoothie though is to freeze the fruit (after washing/coring/peeling); this way the ice cubes can be omitted. If you do this, you'll want to let the fruit thaw for 15 minutes or so before blending (or use a really powerful blender).
