How Kraft Foods Singlehandedly Ruined Easter
Over at Fox News, is this gem:
Kraft Foods — which now owns chocolate maker Cadbury — has stunned consumers by no longer using Cadbury’s Dairy Milk in the recipe for its Creme Eggs. And, there’s more: the company also is reducing a package from six eggs to five, without reducing the price. U.S. giant Kraft Foods bought Cadbury in 2010 and its global snacks business under the name of Mondelez International.
The Reaction
Easter is Ruined
No, really! That’s what people are saying!
Catholic Living Reacts
Since obviously, Easter is all about Cadbury eggs, we figure it’s high time the Gospel account of Easter morning was updated to be more relevant to the age in which we live.
Then Mary Magdalene found the disciples hiding in the the upper room. “You’re never going to believe this!” she exclaimed. “An angel just told me they changed the Cadbury egg recipe.”
Incredulous, Peter and John ran for the nearest Cadbury factory, but John arrived first. After reading the announcement on the Cadbury plant door, he waited for Peter to catch up. “The ingredient is not here,” John declared, “See the place where they used to store it?”
Sure enough, there was no dairy milk, but only the linen cloth on which it normally rested. When questioned about when the ingredient had been removed, the Roman night-watchmen hypothesized it had been stolen away by Cadbury fanatics while they were sleeping. The Sanhedrin was not available for comment.
UPDATE: The other disciples broke the news to Thomas (who loved Cadbury eggs better than all the rest). His reaction: “Unless I see the discoloration of the chocolate for myself and put my finger into the creamy center, I will never believe it.”
I am reminded of the words of Christ:
And he said to him: If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they believe, if one rise again from the dead. (Luke 16:31)
It is a sad state of affairs when a change to a Cadbury recipe equates to “Easter ruined.”
